KIDS RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Mission Statement
Provide religious education and a Syriac Orthodox Christian foundation for
the children of our community. To help young people come to know, love, and
serve God as revealed in Jesus Christ.
Develop knowledge about our Lord Jesus
Christ as we provide opportunities for participation, exploration, and
connections in, of, and among stories, lessons, and experiences of our
biblical heritage at appropriate stages in each child's development.
Believe the love of God is experienced
through warm and caring relationships at home, church, and community and
work to promote these relationships.
Honor the gifts with which each of us have
been blessed, and explore options for using these gifts to connect with the
students and faithful parishioners of our Syriac community.
Sunday School at St. Thomas Parish Church
Children Walking in Christ's Commandments
"I rejoiced greatly that I have found some of your children walking in
truth, as we received commandment from the Father... from the beginning:
that we love one another. This is love, that we walk according to His
commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the
beginning, you should walk in it..." 2 John 1:4-6.
Each Sunday, during liturgy, the children of the St. Thomas Parish Church
learn and walk according to God's fulfilling words. The lessons cover topics
such as: prayer, the Holy Bible, Holy Communion, Baptism, Icons, Candles,
Saints and other similar topics. For over five years, with over twenty
children, the Sunday School has progressed and accomplished many goals.
Throughout the years, the Sunday School has participated in many events such
as: communion, scout camps, church retreats, bowling nights, liturgy
rehearsal days, pool party, movie night, attended crystal cathedral plays,
San Juan Capistrano field trip, performed a Christmas play, Easter hunts,
ice-skating night, bible study nights, and many more other wonderful events.
At each event, as Sunday School gathers all together, the children are able
to realize that they are all children of God brought together to show His
love.
With the help of the church members, the parents, and the Sunday school
teachers, the Sunday School is able to work and accomplish many other goals
with Our Lord holding us in His hands. With His Grace, the Sunday school
aspires still to build more upon Sunday school children, for they are the
future generation speakers of God.
"How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be
called children of God! And that is what we are!" 1 John 3:1.
